Basuki: Fifth Heavy Rain in Jakarta Is Safe

Jakarta Governor, Basuki T Purnama said, the fifth heavy rain which flushed on Friday (12/18) night, does not cause inundation in the capital. Considering, the all culverts and drains have been cleaned. Besides all the pump house is also on standby.

You can see, rain has happened in Jakarta five times. Last night is the fifth heavy rain

"Last night, heavy rain had hit Jakarta but it does not cause inundation. This is because we have cleaned almost all drains and culverts," he stated, at Jakarta City Council (DPRD), Saturday (12/19).

Basuki admitted, on the first until fourth rain, some regions were inundated. It is surely made as evaluation material by related regional working unit (SKPD) as flood mitigation way.

Morning to Afternoon, Rain Predicted to Hit Greater Jakarta

"You can see, rain has happened in Jakarta five times. Last night is the fifth heavy rain," he exclaimed.

He exemplified the fourth rain caused inundation in some areas in West Jakarta. It was due to pump operator were late to activate pump house. That is why, he replaced Head of Water Management Department.

"Hence, I'm instructing whole headmen to know your region well. Please check all pump houses, I don't want the previous condition happens again," he stated.

To re-test the pump, he hopes heavy rain to hit Jakarta in next few days. Thus he can know which areas should be arranged.
